MARVELLOUS MALTA

As some of you might have noticed, I was absent for little over a week. It had everything to do with my vacation to Malta. My Instagram feed is overcrowded with photo’s my boyfriend and I took on that beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea. I just can’t get enough!
We stayed at the Bayview hotel in Sliema. On Tripadvisor you can find our opinion and what we thought of our stay. I found that Tripadvisor also has an app which works really great. Of course you cannot always count on the reviews as your experience is an entirely unique one and every person has different perspective but I definitely recommend using Tripadvisor for your next getaway. For the first time in my life I am able to say that I wore everything I brought with me on a holiday. Everything! The only items I didn’t wear were my two longsleeves and with good reason; the temperature never got below 26°. Even at night, can you believe it? I did wear those on the plane though. I always get cold when I’m up in the air! Which brings me to another great tip: pack a soft scarf that is big enough to function as a blanket. Perfect for when you want to take a power nap during the flight or when your outfit leaves your legs bare and they get a little chilly.
In the coming week I'll make sure to upload a travel diary where you can see everything we did in the seven days we spent in Malta. In the meantime you can check out the hashtag #marmalta on Twitter and Instagram to see what I posted over the last week!

SUMMER LOVIN'

Do you ever get that after dinner pregnancy belly? Mine balloons after a big dinner haha. And I love me some good food. I look at my plate, then at my belly and wonder: "How much food can my stomach hold?!" To sooth the bloat I drink hot green tea. But the best remedy is to go for a nice evening walk. Together with your loved one, it becomes a romantic date while burning some calories. Summer nights are especially suitable for this because it's pleasantly nice and warm out. And so my boyfriend and I headed out to feed stale bread to the goats. We decided to walk a little further and ended up at this road next to the cornfield where he shot my outfit pictures.
I hope you like it!

RASPBERRY KISS

This morning my boyfriend surprised me with two small boxes of fresh raspberries. Thanks babe! He had picked those up on his way back home. My raspberry heart immediately started beating faster. I googled a little and after a short while I decided I wanted to make raspberry muffins for breakfast. Mind you, it was almost noon by then so I was a little hungry hasty.

I try to make something new in the kitchen every week because it's fun and in our country there is at least one sad rainy day a week. And rainy day cooking is the best type of cooking in my opinion. (Right behind an outside BBQ at a kitchen Island in Barbados of course).

Kitchen duty is something I like. So I'm in luck when people make me choose what part of the household I want to be responsible for this week. With a weary expression on my face I moan and say: "Well, it's not much of a choice but I guess I'll take kitchen..." And then I am exactly where I wanna be ;-).

I couldn't find a recipe that I wanted to follow. Here comes my own version that couldn't have turned out better:

-2 eggs (use the entire egg, I find no peace in throwing away the yellow parts)

-50 grams of sugar

-a couple of dates, cut in small pieces

-25 grams of Chia seeds

-40 grams of dairy butter (a.k.a. REAL butter)

- as many raspberries you can possibly add on top in the end ( I topped mine with three pink ones)

- 100 grams of whole wheat flour

Mix all except for the raspberries. You want them alive and in one piece. After you filled up the muffin cups, gently fold in the pink raspberries. Bake at 180° for half an hour or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean! Voilà. There you go. Bon appetit!

The Raspberry Kiss.
yes, that's what I call my latest Truly Mar kitchen adventure. This experiment turned out really great. So far I have surprised my boyfriend, my father-in-law and myself with this très sweet bite. Even the dog approved, hovering over the kitchen floor with his snout searching for forgotten crumbs like a prospector looking for gold.

BAG IT UP

Mango clutch, Chanel CC cream, my L'Oreal Paris nude lipstick by Julianne Moore.

It's funny that I'm writing about small purses today. I'm usually all about bringing a large bag in which I carry my whole life with me. But there are a lot of occasions when a smaller purse is a better partner. For example when you go post a letter, go get an icecream with your friend or go by your grandma for tea and a cookie. I'm showing you my favorite little bags that I use every week. My current repeat offenders are by Mango, Atmosphere, Accessorize and Pieces. Two of the bags are officially my moms but I use them just as often as her! I love simple, elegant designs. But there is one bag, you'll see which one, that isn't that simple at all. But elegant all the more.
Atmosphere purse, Canon camera and Ted Baker notebook.
Can you believe I found this treasure at Primark for €7. I especially like the complicated design. The beads stay on perfectly too!
My favorite nailpolish by Rita Ora. It listens to the name Go Wild-Er-Ness. And some chewing gum.
This minty bag is great for the summer. The color just makes me wanna go get cotton candy and ride the Ferris wheel all night!
Lipstick Dive by Mac. I did a whole article on this lipstick. And you can't go wrong with a bright orange wallet by Pauls Boutique. This camouflage purse is by Pieces and you can fit a lot more in there than you might think. I call it my Hermione bag as I am able to pack all the supplies that I could ever need!
This simple grey design is perfect for everyday wear.  And my lifelong friend the iPod nano. Listening to Kina Grannis here.
Thanks for borrowing this one mom! Do you spot the scrunchy? So fancy! Oh and my favorite perfume by Chanel.

Which items do you always carry with you?

CONFETTI GIRL

Confetti: small pieces of coloured paper traditionally thrown over a bride and bridegroom by their wedding guests after the marriage ceremony has taken place
We went picnicking with our dog Maylow. In the forest we witnessed newlyweds getting their wedding pictures taken. It was a lovely thing to watch. After they left we went to check out the spot they shot their photos. And what we found was colorful pieces of confetti in the grass. So we took a couple of pictures.
Haha I know, our Border Collie is the true star of this little photoshoot!

MY FAVORITE STARBUCKS DRINK

With my mom at Starbucks in Barcelona
Starbucks. A couple of years ago it was quite a bit of an attraction. The first stores had opened their doors in the Netherlands and going there was an actual thing. I mean, everyone wanted to go there. Walking around with a Starbucks cup was the coolest thing to do. It became a fashion accessory. To me it's still a great place to go to treat myself to one of their hot or cold drinks. Sometimes my girls and I meet there in between lectures. And one time, I had missed my train by a few seconds. I decided I could use one of my favorite drinks while waiting for the next train. In New York I found out the stores were relatively small in my home country and there was a lot more to choose from but I still stayed loyal to my favorite drink!

I almost always go for the same drink: the Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel. Very summery drink. I know haha, but it's just too good to pick something else. Did you know that Macchiato is an Italian word meaning “marked.” So a latte macchiato is steamed milk marked with a little espresso! The combination with sweet caramel just makes me wanna drink it all day, all year 'round.
In Barcelona I was Mariolan
In New York I was Marlene

DIY JEWELRY DISPLAY

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. I don't know about you but I just love small ear jewelry. Bigger earrings can be super glamorous but on a day to day basis I prefer little earrings. For this DIY there is not a lot of tools required. Yay! Basically you just need the jewels you want to put on display, a pin-up board and your hands to put everything in place. Easy does it. That's not a whole lot of steps, I know. But sometimes, less really is more.

MAR GOES MALTA

Do you ever feel like the summer vacation you booked is months away? Then all of a sudden you're leaving within 10 days!? That's me right now. And I am stoked, Together with my boyfriend I will be exploring the archipelago of Malta. Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, Malta has two smaller siblings, the islands Gozo and Comino. I am looking forward to walking around the historic sites in admiration and visit beautiful churches in the capital city Valetta. But most of all, I find joy in the prospect of making new memories with my favorite human on earth.

I know that the fear of the unknown is what makes traveling so exciting but informing yourself will add to the mysteries hiding in a foreign city all the more. Doing a little homework before you leave will make you understand your destination. And personally I am convinced it will only improve your trip if you do. So read your copy of the Lonely Planet before you hop on that plane! I know I will. We even made a personalized map of Malta with Google's MyMaps.

NYC YEARNINGS

In April I was lucky enough to fly over the Atlantic Ocean and set foot on the magical soil of  New York City. It was truly a dream come true. I had spent hours watching Gossip Girl, going over every detail in the streets, restaurants and shops. And here I was. Walking in the same neigborhoods as Serena, breathing in the fresh smell of yellow cab carbon monoxide and cheering on the Knicks in worlds most famous arena Madison Square Garden. It was every bit as extraordinary as they make it seem on television. And at the same time I felt SO at home. New York, you are one in a million.
I can't wait to be back...
